Drapers Hall to host its first art workshop
In a first for the business, Shrewsbury based Drapers Hall will hold an art and painting workshop at the end of this month.
The day-long event on Monday 28 November will be hosted by local artist Rob Leckey. Rob, who holds years of experience as a workshop provider, is an associate member of The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and has been exhibited at the RBSA in Birmingham. Featured in The Artist and the autumn 2016 edition of the National Trust magazine, he also recently published a new book entitled Painting Without Brushes.
Rob works primarily in acrylic paint and ink, collage and mixed media. The acrylics are applied with rollers, pieces of shaped wood, card and any found materials. Collage materials comprise of torn or shaped tissue paper, newsprint, and magazine illustrations. Details are also added with oil and chalk pastels. There are eight of Rob’s paintings currently on display at Drapers Hall, commission from the sales of which Drapers Hall will donate to Macmillan cancer Support Shropshire.
Commenting on the event Drapers Hall owner Sharon Huxley said: “This is the first of its kind for us and one which I am very excited about. Rob’s art is fantastic and we’ve received a number of positive comments from customers and sold some of his pieces. If all goes well, then art workshops may well become a regular event in the Drapers Hall diary throughout 2017.”
Rob Leckey said: “The workshop is for both beginners and experience artists working in my style of painting as explained above. Paintings will be constructed in controlled but loose stages from the background coming forward, enabling artists with limited experience to confidently venture into new artistic avenues. Experienced artists may relish the opportunity to bring their skills and techniques, perhaps to a new and different style of picture making. Bring your own image, photo or sketch that you may like to work from. I anticipate a fun and rewarding day in the beautiful, evocative, historical setting with a scrumptious lunch and refreshments. “
Attendees are advised, though not essential, to bring their own acrylic paints, brushes and pallets etc, collage materials in the form of tissue paper, newsprint and magazines and old store or bank cards. Rollers and wooden printing tools and other materials will be made available. Mount boards may be purchased at the cost price of £1.25.
The Drapers Hall art workshop will run from 10am to 5pm on Monday 28 November. Tickets for up to a maximum of 20 attendees are £40 in advance, which includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day. They are available from Drapers Hall on 01743 344679 or via email email@example.com. Attendees need to highlight any special dietary requirements at the point of booking. A special rate is also available for people wishing to stay overnight.
