Saxonby sponsored cricket summer camp 2018 heralded a great success
A recent week-long summer camp in Shrewsbury for aspiring young cricketers has once again been heralded a great success.
The third annual event, which took place at the Frankwell cricket ground in Shrewsbury and attended by over 80 five to 15 year olds, was organised through Beacon Cricket Club and sponsored by local construction company Saxonby.
150 parents and family members attended a barbeque during the evening of the final day to celebrate the week and bring the summer camp to a close. Medals were presented to all of the participants, as well as an award to respective to age group winners and one to an overall star of the week.
Steve Reese, club development officer at Beacon Cricket Club, said: “All this has been made possible by the fantastic support we receive from Shrewsbury Town Council, Saxonby, Your Land Partner and our fabulous band of volunteers, without whom we would not be able to host such an event. This year’s providers Embrace PE, Bowbrook Archers, Drummond Outdoor & Canoe and Shropshire Wildlife Survival School have given the kids an experience which will kick-start their summer holidays.
This is the club’s eighth year at Frankwell, and the progress we’ve made has been remarkable. Planning permission to develop the pavilion has also been granted and with 130 youngsters now in the junior section of the club it couldn’t have come at a better time. With Saxonby and our other sponsors support the future looks very bright indeed.”
James Wood, co-founder and group managing director at Saxonby, said: “Saxonby was once again very happy to support the summer camp organised by Beacon CC for a number of reasons, but primarily because it enabled youngsters of all abilities to enjoy sport. Steve and his team’s commitment to the future and sustainability of Beacon CC and grass roots cricket is clear to see and should be highly commended.”
