Tech Data puts more focus on HP workstations and thin clients

December 7, 2015

Basingstoke, 07 December 2015, Tech Data is putting increased focus on HP workstations, thin clients and point-of-sale devices with the appointment of Sam Trinder to a new dedicated Business Development Executive role within the HP team.

As well as providing active sales support to HP partners bidding for business with HP’s solutions, he will be helping resellers to co-ordinate marketing and access the benefits of HP’s partner support programmes. Sam brings plenty of experience to this new post having spent the last ten months as BDE for Acer and three years as part of the SMB DMR team.

Following the separation of HP’s business, Tech Data sees more opportunities to grow sales of HP’s specialist desktop and mobile PC systems, says Ross Turner, HP Business Manager at Tech Data. “HP itself is placing increased emphasis on its high-value for workstation, thin client and PoS solutions and we see this as a very considerable opportunity to catch the wave and support partners in addressing the needs of specialist users in areas such as architecture and design, engineering, call centres and retail. Sam’s appointment is a testimony to our commitment to HP business development.”

HP has recently sharpened its competitive edge in the workstation market with the launch of the latest generation ZBook mobile workstations, the first Ultrabook device of is class to make use of quad-core Intel Xeon processors. The 15.6-inch ZBook Studio comes with up to 2TB of storage with dual second-generation 1TB SSDSs, up to 32 GB of ECC memory, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, and either an HP DreamColor UHD (4K) or FHD (1080p) touch display.

The Zbook Studio weights just under 2kg with its core specification and it is just 18mm thick. It can be configured with a choice of either new Nvidia Quadro M1000M (2 GB GDDR5) Professional graphics or Intel HD graphics 530. The Quadro M1000M delivers up to twice the graphics and 3D rendering performance of previous generation Nvidia Quadro GPUs.
