E4environment’s new appointment brings research consultant back to Shrewsbury

April 14, 2015

Shrewsbury based environmental consultancy E4environment (E4) has appointed Emma Sumner as its new research consultant.

25-year-old Sumner holds a BSc (Hons) in physical geography from Aberystwyth University and a MSc in environmental management from Coventry University. Although this is the first full-time position since completing her studies, Sumner has worked on a number of voluntary ecology based projects prior to joining E4environment including one at the Mataia Homestead in New Zealand.

As part of her master’s she also attended a series of Global Leaders Programme (GLP) events in India and Cambodia. Designed for postgraduate students to develop their potential and delivered by inspirational world leaders, the GLP enables participants through, for example, a period of study overseas, volunteering with different communities or attending conferences, to engage in activities that will further develop a global mind-set and understanding of the different perspectives people adopt.

Reporting to director Mandy Stoker, her duties and responsibilities will be to provide research information to support client project funding bids as well as preparing and monitoring clients’ environmental management systems. She will also be working on a series of ‘how to’ guide books to be published by E4, which will highlight environmental issues affecting business and the potential solutions available.

Commenting on Sumner’s appointment, Mandy Stoker said: “E4environment is a growing business and it was excellent timing when Emma’s impressive CV arrived, as we were just about to start the process of looking for someone of her calibre. Emma’s qualifications, previous volunteer work, pro-active attitude, desire to ‘go the extra mile’, sense of purpose and responsibility are exactly what we require at E4. Welcome aboard Emma!”

Originally from Shrewsbury, where she was born, raised and went to school, Sumner is delighted to return to her home town and into a ‘dream’ job. With the long-term aim of working towards a Chartered Institute of Environmental & Ecological Management accreditation, she said: “I’m so pleased to have found an opportunity to move back to Shrewsbury and especially to work with a company such as E4. I have joined a happy, well-connected team and I hope my experience and enthusiasm will make a positive contribution to an already modern, forward thinking and ambitious company.”
