Alcoa Fastening Systems: AFS launch Recoil Tangless wire thread insert
Alcoa Fastening Systems (AFS) has announced the launch of its new Recoil® Tangless® wire thread insert.
With no tang to break off following installation the insert is ideal in situations where the counting of displaced tangs is mandatory or where loose tangs could potentially damage the finished product. In addition, its bi-directional design helps eliminate the time required to check insert orientation prior to installation, therefore significantly reducing assembly time.
Available in a variety of materials and finishes as either self-locking or free-running form, selection includes metric sizes M3, M4, M5, M6, M8 and M10, in bulk or strip-feed reels. A M2.5 will also be on the market shortly. In addition, a full range of manual, hand pre winder, electric and air tools complement the Recoil Tangless wire thread insert line to accommodate various types, speeds and volumes of installation.
Commenting on the new product Jay Sahadew, marketing manager at AFS, said: “Developed based on the demand from customers requiring an insert with no tang, the Recoil Tangless insert will not only save installation time but also provide assurance to safety-critical applications such as engine manufacturing or consumer electronics, where the tang could potentially cause a short circuit in electronic components or other computerised equipment. It is easy to use – simply drill, tap and install – and can also be removed or adjusted with ease. As well as manufacture and supply, comprehensive technical information and advice on the use of Recoil Tangless products is available to all of our customers from project inception through to post installation support.”
David Ross, managing director at Glasgow based AFS reseller ABT Machine Tools, said: “We received very positive comments about Recoil Tangless from a leading automotive industry customer and as a result we will be introducing the product to other sectors during 2014. It is an innovative and well-designed insert which has massive potential.”
Recoil Tangless inserts are available to purchase direct from AFS or through its authorised resellers and distributors, a list of which is available at www.afsrecoil.net. The AFS Recoil team can be contacted on freephone 0800 019 8180 (UK) and 00441952 290011 (Europe) or by email email@example.com.
