Top 80s indie band BOB to play first Shrewsbury gig in 25 years

April 23, 2015

One of the brightest indie guitar bands of the late 80s and early 90s will make a return to Shrewsbury for the first time in 25 years in May.

BOB, who played over half a dozen sell-out gigs between 1988 and 1990 in venues such as The Fridge, will use the town date at The lion Hotel on 22 May as a warm up to their appearance at the Gigantic Indie All Dayer in Manchester the following day. Both gigs will coincide with the release of the band’s Singles & EPs album, due for release on 18 May.

BOB had a number of indie hits, the most notable being 1989’s Convenience, available to view on YouTube here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXLE_0aruec.

Co-promoter of the gig Guy Phillips said: “BOB were one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen, which I was reminded of again when I saw them play at a festival last year. They had a large fan base in Shrewsbury and throughout Shropshire, and a BOB gig always drew a capacity crowd. It’s going to be a fantastic night and to say we’re excited about their return to the town is an understatement!”

Commenting on the show in Shrewsbury, Dean Leggett, the band’s spokesperson and drummer, said: “We’ve played a few festivals in recent years and when the offer came in to play in Manchester, it made sense to take in a Shrewsbury gig as well. It’ll be great to come back to a town in which we had such a dedicated following. It’s been a long time but we’re looking forward to catching up with some old friends and making some new ones as well.”

Tickets for the BOB gig at The Lion Hotel are Tickets are £9.90 advance (inc booking fee) through We Got Tickets here: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/317551 and £10 on the door.

The event is available to view on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/events/1086615884686550/, where fans can place requests for songs to be played by the band on the 22 May.
