Tech Data wins Microsoft award for TD Activate-here platform

March 2, 2015

Distributor’s success in developing and driving electronic downloads and activation business with retailer and reseller customers has been recognised by the software industry leader

Basingstoke, 02 March 2015 – Tech Data UK and Ireland has been named Microsoft OEM Partner of the Year for the EMEA region in recognition of the innovation and performance it has demonstrated in developing and driving its TD Activate-here electronic software download and activation platform.

Over the past 18 months Tech Data has seen the mix of its Microsoft business shift dramatically from full-packaged products (FPP) to download and activation. It is clear that this is now the way that most resellers and retailers prefer to transact their single-unit sales, says James Reed, Director of Software and Systems at Tech Data.

“We have been working hard to communicate the benefits of TD Activate-here to our customers and to encourage them to use the platform effectively. We’ve also continued to enhance and improve the system and our development, marketing and support teams have done a fantastic job. We’re pleased to get this recognition from Microsoft but believe there is still much more we can do to help our customers and make TD Activate-here even better.”

Tech Data recently made its InStore app available; this can be installed on PCs used at the point of sale to provide retailers with immediate access to the full range of software packages available on the TD Activate-here platform. As well as the complete portfolio of Microsoft’s fully packaged products, software from Adobe, Symantec and McAfee, plus best-selling solutions from Sage, F-Secure and Iris Software are already available on Activate-here. More vendors will be added this year.

By making use of TD Activate-here – on an ad-hoc basis or a fully-integrated part of the sales process – resellers and retailers can always offer the full range of Microsoft solutions and software from other leading vendors, for electronic download and activation. They don’t need to hold stock or make up-front investment, which means they are able to offer a wide range of titles and make more use of marketing materials in-store to drive attach sales on hardware devices.

The award is being presented at a special Microsoft event in Dublin in March.
