Tech Data’s Print to Receipt capability can power digital software sales for retailers

October 9, 2014

Basingstoke, 09 October 2014 – Tech Data UK has added a Print to Receipt (PTR) capability to its Activate-here electronic software distribution system that makes it even easier for retailers to offer and sell more software.

The PTR feature can be quickly integrated into retailers’ point-of-sale systems, enabling 16-digit activation pins to be printed directly onto the customer’s purchase receipt. This is easier and cheaper than POSA (Point of Sale Activation) systems and enable shops to offer a full range of games and business products and thus maximise attach rates with notebook PC and tablet sales.

James Reed, Director of Software and Systems at Tech Data UK, said: “With Print to Receipt the retailer can deliver the activation code to the customer instantly and we can now integrate that onto their tills very easily. POSA cards will eventually disappear. If you have thousands of software products, you need thousands of cards and the costs add up. With PTR, the activation code is simply printed onto the till receipt at the check-out and that’s all there is to it. Digital distribution is the future for software sales in retail and with PTR, Tech Data is making it even easier for retailers to make use of this quick, simple, and extremely effective way of selling software in store.”

The entire and fully up-to-date product ranges of Symantec, Adobe and McAfee and additional titles from Sage, FSecure and Iris Software, plus 3000 games titles from over 200 leading publishers, are available via Activate-here.

By making use of the service, retailers can offer the full range of these products, for immediate download and activation by the customer. Reed adds: “It is easy, convenient and low-cost – and it means you can maximise your attach sales as well as always offering a complete range of products – all with zero shipping, stock-holding or returns. That makes it simpler to do business and reduces costs significantly.”

Retailers that have embraced digital distribution and integrated Activate-here into their own processes have seen their software sales increase significantly, Reed noted. “Offering software in this way enables you to offer customers much more than you could otherwise. People are already used to downloading and activating software themselves, so this is very much the future. With Print to Receipt, we are now making it ever easier to attach sell business and games software. We think there are many more retailers who could benefit by integrating Activate-here and PTR into their systems.”
